The Tamalpais Union High school District has been sued by a former player, alleging that he was molested beginning in 1999 by a tennis coach, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
The plaintiff, who was a student at a San Rafael school, but was a member of the Tamalpais High School tennis team in Mill Valley, claimed that he was repeatedly abused and beaten by Normandie Santos Burgos, his coach.
Burgos was fired in 2006 by the district after similar allegations. However, he continued to work as a private coach. He was convicted in Contra Costa County of 60 counts of molestation against two teenagers in 2019. He is currently serving a 255-year sentence at Mule Creek State Prison.
Burgos’ abuse allegations have been brought against the school district by two other ex-players. A Marin County jury awarded $10 Million to one of the players in May. In November, another former player filed a lawsuit.
Although the school district did not comment on the latest suit, Superintendent Tara Taupier stated that the district does not have any “administrators or board members who were there when Mr. Burgos was employed.”
