Adam’s Polishes, LLC has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of Adam’s Polishes hand sanitizer due to the presence of Methanol.

The consumer-level recall was initiated after FDA testing found the presence of undeclared Methanol in multiple bottles of hand sanitizer produced by the company. Adam’s Polishes, LLC is, therefore, recalling lot 133475 and 19 other lots with an abundance of caution.

Risk Statement

Methanol is a poisonous substance when injected, swallowed, or absorbed through the skin. According to the CDC, symptoms of methanol poisoning may include nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system, or death.

Although all persons using these products on their hands are at risk for methanol poisoning, young children who accidentally ingest these products are more at risk. Adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute are most at risk for serious methanol poisoning.

To date, Adam’s Polishes, LLC has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.

Adam’s Polishes Hand Sanitizer is marketed to decrease bacteria on the skin that could cause disease. The product is available in various sizes, including 8 fluid ounces (240 mL), 16 fluid ounces (480 mL), and 1-gallon bottles.

The 8 and 16 ounces are packaged in spray bottles, while the 1-gallon bottle is packaged in a jug with a pump. The affected lot numbers can be found on the bottom of each respective bottle.

Adam’s Polishes, LLC is voluntarily recalling all affected hand sanitizer products immediately and is advising all consumers to discontinue the use of the product. To check if the product you have is affected, visit  https://adamspolishes.com/pages/hs-voluntary-recall.The website shows the lot numbers of the affected product and how you can return it and request credit.

This hand sanitizer was sold online nationwide in the US between June 2020 and March 2022.

Adam’s Polishes LLC is notifying its customers through email about the recall. If you have any of the recalled products, you should dispose of them according to local regulations. You can also request credit by emailing Adam’s Polishes at [email protected]. Your email should include a picture of the bottle with the lot number.
